What to Expect at Chinese New Year Festival 2020
Organised by CADCAI - Cairns and District Chinese Association Inc - Cairns Chinese New Year Festival brings the main streets and plazas of Cairns to life with an authentic celebration that involves traditional displays and performances, ceremonial food and a vibrant atmosphere that transforms central Cairns for two whole weeks.
Festival highlights include the yearly lion and dragon procession - set to return on Friday, January 25 at Cairns Lagoon Plaza - as well as the widely attended Cairns Airport Street Festival, which takes place this 2020 on Saturday, February 1. Cairns Airport Year of the Rat Street Festival will come to Grafton Street with a huge market selection offering authentic Chinese food, souvenirs and more, including several street performances to watch throughout the day.
The 15-day program will also feature live music, pop-up cultural feasts and dance performances across the city, culminating in the famous Great Barrier Reef Chinese New Year Lantern Festival on Friday, February 7 - an evening event, and spectacle, for all ages to attend.
Supported by Cairns Regional Council and Queensland Government, Chinese New Year Festival Cairns is one of Australia’s largest celebrations for the Chinese New Year, the full program set to take over Cairns City from January 24 to February 7.
